Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 9, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information unknownQ.com (the "Site", "we", "us") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. unknownQ.com is a US directory of construction contractors. By using the Site you agree to this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. If you register, we collect your email address, name, phone number, city and a password (stored only in hashed form), plus the reviews and other content you submit.
Usage information. We use Google Analytics 4 (via react-ga4) to learn how the Site is used, such as pages viewed, device and browser type, and approximate location. We also use cookies and browser local storage to keep you logged in and remember preferences.
Contact messages. Information you send us through the contact form.
2. Business Listing Data From Public Sources
Our directory lists businesses, not private individuals. Listing data is compiled from public sources, including:
- state contractor license records (currently Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection open data on data.ct.gov);
- public Better Business Bureau and Houzz profile pages;
- public court, lien and licensing-action records; and
- companies' own websites.
We do not publish the home addresses of sole proprietors. Records may be outdated or incorrect, and we do not guarantee their accuracy. See section 7 to request a correction or removal.
3. How We Use Information
- to operate the Site, your account and your reviews;
- to compute and display a "trust score" for listed businesses;
- to respond to your requests and communicate with you about your account;
- to analyze and improve the Site; and
- to detect abuse, enforce our Terms and comply with law.
The trust score is an informational opinion based on available data. It is not a guarantee or recommendation and is not a consumer report. We are not a consumer reporting agency, and the Site must not be used for employment, credit, insurance, tenant-screening or other purposes covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
4. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. Reviews you post are public. We share information with service providers that help us run the Site (such as hosting and Google Analytics), and when required by law or to protect our rights and users.
5. Cookies and Analytics
Cookies and local storage are used for sessions, preferences and analytics. You can block or delete them in your browser settings, but parts of the Site may not work properly. You can limit Google Analytics with Google's browser opt-out tools.
6. Data Retention and Security
We keep account information for as long as needed to provide the Site, or until you ask us to delete it, subject to legal obligations. We use reasonable safeguards, including hashed passwords, but no system is completely secure.
7. Your Choices and Rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data. Business owners and individuals may request correction or removal of a listing. Send requests through the site's contact form or, if you have an account, by writing to us through your account.
California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion or correction, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We respond to verifiable requests within the time frames required by law.
8. Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information (COPPA). If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted here with a new effective date.
10. Contact Us
For questions or requests about this policy, please use the contact form on the Site or write to us through your account.
